I am in the process of transitioning after a successful 25 year Army career where I served as an Engineer and a Special Forces officer.  As a Special Forces Colonel, I excelled in operations, program management and training.  I have a proven track record of mission accomplishment, decisiveness, efficiency, adaptability and inspirational leadership in demanding, fast-paced global environments.  My career is characterized by calm, mature leadership with the ability to connect and motivate people to accomplish the hardest and most complicated tasks.  I am experienced in formulating as well as executing policy, strategy and operational plans that integrate and apply resources toward the desired end state and goal.  I have honed my skills at leading multi-dimensional operations of varying sizes and scope, marshalling diverse logistics and resources toward the accomplishment of organizational goals and objectives.  My current position has broadened my experience working within the interagency of the United States and foreign governments.  I have also traveled and have extensive experience in Southwest Asia and the Middle East.

EXPERIENCE

 

2008-Present    Chief, Special Operations Support Team

U.S. Special Operations Command, Washington, DC

 

The personal representative of a 4-Star Executive within Department of Defense (DOD) to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Provide the critical link between DOD and FBI regarding situation, intentions, and operational requirements in a highly political collaborative inter-agency environment. Maintain clear communication between multiple headquarters to ensure mutual understanding, synchronization and unity of purpose and action globally. 

  • Leveraged over $10M in funding by advising the FBI executive management and staff regarding the optimal use of DOD resources in FBI operations.
  • Developed FBI’s strategy for global engagement after detailed analysis of FBI and DOD global operations.
  • Designed and instituted FBI’s efficient and streamlined information management procedures increasing Bureau’s ability to plan, support and manage global operations.
  • Maintained clear communication between multiple headquarters (Department of Defense, FBI, Department of Justice, military Combatant Commands) to ensure mutual understanding, synchronization and unity of purpose and action globally.
  • Personally rebuilt the strained relationship between the FBI and U.S. Special Operations Command following a security incident in which the relationship had been damaged.

2006-2007       Chief of Staff

Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force – Arabian Peninsula, Iraq

 

Senior executive director for a staff of 250 for the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force in Iraq, consisting of 2,200 U.S. Special Forces and Navy SEALs and 1,800 Iraqi Special Operations Forces conducting combat operations throughout Iraq.  Lead and managed all organizational functions (HR, intelligence, operations, logistics, IT and planning) functions in order to synchronize short and long term goals among 18 different organizations.  Managed and fully accounted for the unit’s diverse budget, totaling over $113 million.

 

  • Provided critical leadership and vision to a team of 250 and numerous subordinate units consisting of U.S. Special Forces, Navy SEALs and Iraqi Special Operation Forces conducting combat operations throughout Iraq.
  • Administered and orchestrated all staff sections and functions to successfully integrate 1500+ operations and support efforts in a fluid, high stress and high risk combat environment.
  • Simultaneously managed 5 separate budgets totaling in excess of $133 million, completing all mission requirements with a 15% savings over previous budgeting cycles, with full accountability.
  • Developed and managed all aspects of staff coordination between the numerous higher headquarters, adjacent commands and international forces insuring properly synchronization of operations for efficiency and effect.
  • Easily and expertly absorbed the additional duties of Deputy Commander (COO) as personnel changes impacted leadership and staffing assignments, without a detriment to operations or mission success.

U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, NC

 

Executive director in charge of coordinating and synchronizing the Strategic Planning Process between the organization’s staff, the Department of the Army, U.S. Special Operations Command and 6 subordinate commands to meet future requirements in material, manpower and budgeting.

 

  • Coordinated and synchronized the Strategic Planning Process between the command’s staff, the Department of the Army, U.S. Special Operations Command and subordinate commands to meet future requirements in material, manpower and budgeting.
  • Directed and mentored a staff of 135 through the complicated DOD budgeting process culminating in the development of the command’s $1.2 billion budget as part of the DOD acquisition program.
  • Managed the budgeting, development, testing and fielding of numerous Special Operations Forces unique equipment programs, worth over $300 million in acquisition programs.

 

 

2003-2005       Battalion Commander

Fort Bragg, NC

 

Senior executive of a 2500+ man battalion responsible for the HR, logistics, warehousing, maintenance, distribution, and training to the United States Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School (USAJFKSWCS).  Prioritized and assigned tasks, set standards and ensured all requirements and support functions were accomplished.  Coordinated with numerous external organizations to insure customer expectations were met and customer service was performed at the highest level.

 

  • Ran an $8 million budget that supported operations spread over the east coast of the United States that funded the training of over 20,000 soldiers.
  • Managed an $8 million budget that supported operations for the training of over 20,000 soldiers that were spread over the east coast of the United States.
  • Managed the utilization and maintenance of over 340 vehicles, 12,000 weapons, 8000 pieces of sensitive electronic and communications equipment, 35 buildings, rigger support and supply services for all of the USAJFKSWSC, with 100% accountability and 97% operational reliability.
  • Recognized two consecutive years by the U.S. Army for the unit’s safety program.
  • Responsible for the command, control and care of 2400 Special Forces (SF) Qualification Course students, as well as the preparation, conditioning and initial tactical training of these SF students.
  • Transformed the organizational culture and climate establishing a customer-service environment resulting in more efficient and effect service delivery.
  • Trained over 2400 soldiers in the preparation, conditioning and initial tactical skills training for the demanding Special Forces Qualification Course while providing day-to-day administrative management, support and discipline to a continually growing student population.

 

 

2002-2003       Chief, Special Forces Training and Doctrine

U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, Fort Bragg, NC

 

Senior director for the Special Forces Training and Doctrine Division. Worked in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.  Developed and designed SF doctrine for field manuals, training circulars, soldier training publications, and mission training plans.  Also, developed SF advanced skills training, doctrine, tactics, techniques, and procedures in airborne, maritime and survival operations.

 

  • Published over 20 manuals covering the training and doctrine requirements of the US Army Special Forces in a 12 month period.
  • Collaborated with DOD executive leadership in order to integrated Special Forces doctrine with DOD doctrine, impacting military and civilian operations overseas to this day.
  • Provided Quality Assurance to the training of over 15,000 soldiers in advanced training for Military Free Fall, Personnel Recovery, Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape, and Combat Diving.

Special Forces Training Group, Fort Bragg, NC

 

Senior staff director for the 1st Special Warfare Training Group (Airborne) comprised of five subordinate units.  Coordinated and synchronized operations, logistics and administrative support of the primary and special staff to support the operations, planning, coordination, management, logistical support, and execution for 64 high risk training courses.

 

  • Planned, executed and completely accounted for a budget $16+ million, successfully meeting all mission requirements.
  • Cultivated, supervised and mentored the primary and special staff of over 70 personnel as well as the subordinate unit’s Executive Officers, coordinated the activities of 18 subordinate units in a fluid, high risk environment.

 

 

1999-2001       Company Commander

Key West, FL

 

Senior manager and director of the Special Forces Underwater Operations School comprised of Special Operations soldiers, sailors, airmen, and civilians. Primarily responsible for the annual training of combat divers, dive supervisors, medical technicians and waterborne infiltrators in support of DOD’s special operations maritime missions.

 

  • Directly oversaw the high risk instruction and training of over 600 soldiers and airmen in combat diving, with no serious injuries or incidents to any student or staff.
